"Moving In!"
As we've said before..."It Takes a Village" to create this space. Now it's time to move the books! Students took such ownership and pride in their new learning space by transporting the books from the Satellite Library to the CUBE book cases.
Opening Night @ The CUBE
So many students came with their parents to show off their new learning space! It was clear by their reactions that it truly is inspirational. Thank you to all APT, Spirit of 67, District staff and community members who came!
Open House for DPM Students
The students at DPME were able to tour the space before it was unveiled to the community. Take a look at these photos.
The Finished Spaces (minus a few things...and people!)
Here's some of our finished photos.

Here's a look at some of the process of the remodel/build of our new space.
The "Final" Plans: ...in 3D!
Flash forward from April...to October...our project plans are in the final stage. Our architect team presented their final renderings, this time in 3D! Amazing to go from ideas, centered around recreating a 21st Century learning space, to a clear vision for our school. We are more excited as we know the C3 is nearing construction! Merchandise Mart Excursion: April 5th
On Thursday April 5th, a group of students and staff involved in the C3 creation traveled down to the Merchandise Mart to view industrial and interior design firms' works. We looked at furniture and designs we would like to see in our new center, and were given many presentations by different designers. After a full day at the Merchandise Mart, we all walked through beautiful downtown Chicago to Perkins & Will Architecture firm. There we had an amazing lunch and were able to reflect upon what we saw over the course of the day. Students were shown the blueprints for our space thus far, and were asked to draw in ideas of their own. Our students also go to vote yes or no on some of the very items we saw in the Merchandise Mart that day! What an AMAZING TRIP, we all left so inspired! Check out our blog and read one student's account of this trip.
Cube Meeting: March 14th
March 14th was the second 'floor-plan' meeting we've had with our architect. We viewed completely new plans that brought the alterations we wished to see on the older versions to life! Much of our meeting was spent huddled over our meeting table, pens in hand, drawing in changes and combining ideas from different plans! We came away from this meeting with a pretty solid idea of the basics of our potential layout! Read more in our Blog.
Meeting with the architects' first plans
Although the actual first meeting with the architect happened with the students, this was the first time they brought the physical plans, drawn up after listening to our ideas, needs and wants. Lots of feedback was collected from all!
Our Student Team
Our middle school students volunteered to be part of our group. They are the visionaries. They are the reason we're building this new space. They are the future. They are 21st Century Kids!
The Old Space
The space that we began thinking about transforming used to house all the administrative directors and their assistants. Since they moved to another location in the district, this space has been used for a myriad of purposes; the elementary schools' TimeZone (The Totally Interactive Museum Express), Middle School Culture Fairs, large student group presentations, teachers' professional development activities, parent meetings and so on.
