This is such a thrilling time for DPM! Construction in our new C3 space is on schedule to be completed by the end of March! (I hope I didn’t just jinx things!) Now, let’s not get too excited. Before we move in, we will still need to install the new technology and furniture. However, because we are so close to finishing this space, I’ve begun to envision the amazing things that students will accomplish here. I’m imagining the students moving about, like ants scurrying from nest to nest, preparing for winter. Some students will be hovering over a computer, editing a movie. Another group of students will be in the green screen room videotaping some final shots. A few will move from group to group, sharing ideas for presentations. Still others will be curled up in a chair in a corner reading. All of this will happen because of a shared vision with amazing colleagues and administrators. This year-long journey is coming to fruition, and the vision will soon be a reality. It may seem like this was just a renovation of space. But, we’ve done more than remove walls; we’ve removed perceived barriers, and our students will be able to create, collaborate and communicate freely!

"It takes a village"... to recreate a space for the 21st Century Learner. This blog is documentation of our journey of building a new, vibrant middle school learning center filled with media, print, books, technology, and mentors. Based on three of the 4C's of 21st Century Skills of Creativity, Collaboration and Communication, this center is meant to instill a love of curiosity, innovation, critical thinking and interaction with others. We have lots of people involved in our team: 21st Century Learning/Technology Specialists, Library-Media Specialists, Classroom Teachers, Fine Arts Teachers, Digital Natives--and Immigrants, Administrators AND students!
